Update: Haul!

Hey guys, utmost apologies for not updating my blog for the past few months! Have been caught up working and sometimes simply lazy. Plus, I am running out of muse lately. Not too sure what to write.

On the contrary, I actually updated something on this blog. But blogger stood up on me and deleted the entire post! All my efforts were down the drain :(

No matter how much it frustrated me, I knew I had to come up with something. Thus, I've came up with the idea of doing a haul post + minor reviews on the products I've bought this month!

Jeng jeng jeng!!

Though it may not look massive, but this was the first time I've mugged so many beauty products in a month! Blame the sales ... for some reason I heard them calling unto me. Dangerous.
There goes my wallet. Purchasing only a few of these stuffs cost around rm200. Crazy or what?

To make things easier, I've labelled the products in alphabetical order.

A. Maybelline the Magnum Volume Express waterproof mascara

I've used this product once before purchasing it again at Watson's. The reason why I repurchased it because popteen raved highly about this mascara. When applied, my lashes appeared fuller and more dramatic. But it wasn't much of a wow for me, because I think the brush was a tad too thick & hard to apply when you are in a hurry. It certainly made my lashes looked longer, but it was clumpy. It tugged on my lower lashes almost every time I blink.

Application wise was challenging. I had to be careful when I wave this thing on my lashes. Due to the thick bristles, it is not surprising to have black stains across your eyelids.

The formula stayed on pretty well for long hours, unfortunately it was extremely difficult to remove. A good makeup remover is important if you want to remove tough formulas such as this.

On the up side, the price was reasonable. That was another reason why I gave this product another chance. But unlikely in the future.

B. Revlon Colourstay foundation

Old readers might find this surprising. I knew I've been boycotting this brand after the unforgettable lipstick experience. But then again, I've heard really great reviews about this drugstore foundation. Priced at rm48, again, it is not incredibly expensive but certainly NOT cheap. Being the soft hearted one, I've forgiven this brand and decided to give it another go.

Thankfully, this foundation was not as horrible as the lipstick. It had great coverage and it lasted for a long, long time. It was labelled as one of America's longest lasting foundation that stays for 16 hours!! In terms of longevity, it beat my BB cream flat. Haha!

Unfortunately, I disliked the packaging of the product. Unlike my BB cream, the foundation is installed in a glass-like container. Not good to have it around you when you are angry. This thing will break! Moreover, it did not have a pump for easy use. Difficult to pour the contents out in a decent amount because it has a huge opening. In addition, bacteria would love to breed in that area.

Last but not least, it smelled horrible. There is this funky alcoholic scent when you pour the contents out. No, just no.

C. Fresh Nail Wash Safe Nail Polish Remover.

I haven't tried this out yet. But it was cheap, rm8 for two bottles. Yet to have reviews on this one.

D. Etude House Nail Polishes

I loved the packaging! It was so lovely! I regretted not purchasing the entire collection because there was 50% off. rm2.95 per bottle, an absolute steal!

Quality was decent, way better than elianto. With base and top coat applied, the nail colour stayed on pretty well. It doesn't chip as badly as elianto.

Oh boy .... I am getting tired already. Haha!

E. Etude House LuciDarling Gradient cheek in peach

My brain is calling me to stop. Thus I am going to go very briefly on this one. Besides I've not used this product long enough to do a full review.

Pigmentation was meh. Hardly showed up with a few strokes on my cheeks. But I love the scent and shade of the product. It was a sweet tangerine colour that made me happy after using it.

I am having this orangy and nude season now. I love everything in nude and orange.

But, I would say that this product disappointed me. It did not last long and the pigmentation was pretty lousy. :(

Unlike the peach blush range I've purchased last year, which was overly pigmented, I was surprised that this turned out to be so subtle. Putting on a decent amount of pink blush and you are ready to make the clowns jealous. (Referring to the peach blush range)

F. Canmake cream cheek in Apricot

I love the packaging!! Uber cute!!!

The product was stored in a diamond shaped plastic container. Feeling rich after tagging it around with me! *Elegance and superiority aura filling every corner of the room*

I have not used this long enough to present a full review, but I would say it performed much better compared to the LuciDarling blush I've bought from Etude house.

A tad hard to blend it across my cheeks, but it was highly pigmented. A few swipes will do.

It stayed on the entire day. I was surprised :) Plus, it has tiny chunks of glitter in the product that provides a brighter finish on your cheeks.

All in all, mid year sales is the best time for shopping! 50% - 70% discounts would not be a rare sight to see. Thus, buckle up for future haul updates :) I would love to have a complete review on some products if I have the time.

I hope that the reviews are helpful. See you again soon!

P/S: I inserted the wrong url in my pics. It is lovinthatchapstick not lovinchapstick. Sorry for the epic blurness!

Memoirs of a cursed chapstick.

You must be thinking, how could a chapstick be cursed? Because fairy godmother created it with a slight weave of her wand, in hope to make Cinderella more beautiful as she already is.

Unfortunately, all good things will come to an end. Surely, there must be evil forces behind all the fairytale. Typical is it?

As typical as it seems, Cinderella's stepsisters are jealous of her. They cast a curse on one of Cinderella's chapstick. Snickering after attempting the curse .... they knew the chapstick would make Cinderella ugly, and prince charming would soon be theirs!

(Disclaimer: If you know what Cinderella is all about, by now you should've realized that some parts are made up for the fun of it. No offense.)

So, what is the cursed chapstick?

If you've read my previous post, it should be obvious by now.

That is - jeng jeng jeng .... Revlon colourburst lipstick in 070 soft nude!

Why is it cursed you say? I'll tell you why.

Revlon colourburst lipstick in 070 soft nude.

Notice how the lipstick is out of place? The 'Revlon' word imprinted on the lipstick is not align with the lipstick casing.

Brace yourselves - the horror has just begun!

Look at this! My goodness. The back of the lipstick is literally scrapped off! Note the ugly marks? The bottom of the lipstick is pure horror. Disgusting, actually.

This is what I am saying, the lipstick is cursed! Look how slanted it is! The chapstick is broken as such that it will slant here and there when I want to apply it on my lips.

Literally, you can pluck the entire thing off and dispose it for good.

Despite of all the nonsense, the chapstick melts. When I touched it with my fingers, the consistency of the lipstick is unlike one. To my absolute horror, the consistency of the lipstick is like a lip gloss!

The texture of it is soft. So soft that it will shatter if I press the lipstick hard enough.
Glossy sounds sexy, but trust me, a lipstick being described as such is simply horrendous.
Yes, glossy. Because lipsticks are not meant to be!

Plus, the thing broke on me after I've purchased it like - 2 days ago? In the beginning it melted, then it broke. Sad but true.

2 DAYS AGO! HELLO?

I've regretted purchasing it at Pyramid. Because the place is very far from my house. I can't return it for a new one because you can only do so within 3 days? I think. And, I can't drive.

I bet I had the cursed one because other people are raving about how great this lipstick is.

Maybe the lipstick is displayed under high lightings, thus it melted? You tell me.

Whatever the reason may be, even if the lipstick has a softer texture, I don't see how can it melt and break so easily.

Unless it is cursed. I would love to believe that but we are in the modern world. Cinderella does not exist.

Apart from that, the colour is not very pigmented. I have to apply several times for the colour to pop. Moisturising only when recently applied. After a few hours, it will dry on your lips.

This lipstick melts and solidify pretty quickly I would say. What an unstable lipstick. (Pun intended)

Application wise was good, because it was glossy. Yeah, and it melted.

Apart from that. The packaging is pretty decent. Comparing it with the Rimmel one, the plastic cover is more classy and the lid does not fall off so easily.

What is the point of all that if the lipstick is so lousy?

Revlon lipstick is affordable, but definitely not cheap. Rm 35.90 for such quality is considered expensive.

I'll have to depot the lipstick into a separate container. Extra cost.

To me, this lipstick has won an utmost disappointment award. Never purchase it unless you want to be cursed.

Rimmel lasting finish lipstick.

Actually, I am pretty nervous because this is my first post.
I used to post beauty reviews in my personal blog, but I find it messy chucking in reviews in the middle of my personal blog - which is supposed to be about my life.

Plus, I've been abandoning this new account for some time now.

Since beauty products are things I love ranting about, why not vent it here?

-----

Ok, back to business.

Yesterday, I had a brief stroll at Watson's located in Mid Valley.

Not having the crave to purchase anything yet, I ran through some testers and bumped into this gem - Rimmel lasting finish lipstick in 006 pink blush.

Due to my recent dilemma over a broken lipstick (Revlon Colourburst in Soft nude), I was pretty skeptical about purchasing another. I literally lost all hope towards drugstore lippies because my previous buy was a failure.

To my dismay - Revlon's lipstick had such terrible quality. I was quite surprised because many people raved about Revlon's products. So yeah.

Just so you know, that lipstick broke after I used it few days. It melted and broke, how great!

Back to the subject, I was taken back by the swatches I've made on my hand. This particular lipstick seemed to be quite pigmented and gilded easily on my hand. After contemplating for a bit I decided to give it a go.

From BANGKOK

Rimmel lasting finish lipstick in 006 pink blush.

This matte light pink lipstick was really pigmented when applied on the lips. Application wise was so-so, as it did not glide as easily compared to my hand (during swatches). For an even application, using a lip brush or finger would solve the problem.

Unfortunately, this chapstick was pretty dry. After some time your lips might probably dry out. Thus it is advisable to use a lip balm before application, or a lip gloss after application. Topping the lipstick with a layer of lip gloss really worked well for me. Plus it looked really nice!

(P/S: Lip gloss was used in this photo, sorry for not exfoliating my lips.)

Another downside to this product was the packaging. The plastic looked quite cheap and the cap is not fastened tightly. Besides, the scent may be unpleasant to some. It smelled like lotion or lip balm that I've used before (not sure which). Personally, I don't mind the smell.

All in all, I think this product is a steal. With a price of only rm19.21 - in exchange of the pigmentation and decent quality, I think it is a great deal.

Comparing it to Revlon's colourburst line, Rimmel is definitely much better. Furthermore, Revlon CB lipstick is rm35.90 - overpriced for a lipstick that breaks. Oh yeah.

Who wants to waste their money on something that breaks anyway?

End of the day it is up to personal preferences and it may not suit everyone. At least this lipstick will not burn a hole through your wallet. Worth checking it out.

I would rebuy this one. Maybe trying other colours from this range.
